1. 授業の内容(Course Description)
 A two course sequence designed to teach students how to speak English correctly and clearly.
 Topics include the pronunciation of all the sounds of English, voiced and unvoiced sounds, rhythm, stress, and intonation, among others. Lessons include a variety of activities intended to stimulate students to actively practice pronouncing English in class. Since the course sequence is intended to meet individual student needs, significant class participation is required.

授業の到達目標(Course Objectives)
 To teach students how to pronounce the sounds of English clearly so that other English speakers may understand them.
 To help students know the difference between “textbook English” and the language as it is actually spoken, thereby improving listening skills.

 Tests and Assignments = 50% Participation = 50%

 Looking over the course. Essential English.
【第2回】
 Minimal pairs /s/ and /z/. Falling and rising intonation in questions.
【第3回】
 The final sound./z/ in word groups. The quiet sound of /th/. Listen and link sounds in questions.
【第4回】
 Short requests as given in a restaurant or shop. Understand native and non-native English.
【第5回】
 Minimal pair practice of f/v, b/v, w/v. Linking of /v/ and /f/ sounds.
【第6回】
 Linking with telling the time. Words with consonant clusters, k+w, t+w.

 Midterm Test

 Word stress in verbs ending in “ing”. Joining of /z/ and /s/ sounds.
【第9回】
 Content and functional word stress in sentences. The sounds of /e/ and /æ/

 Talking about family. Long and short sounds. /ʌ/ /αː/

 Question and answers using How much…? How many…? How often…? Who…? Whose…?

 Pronunciation of /l/ and /r/.

 Weak forms of “and” and “but” Questions with the weak form of “can”.
