Practice of listening and speaking English. Lessons focus on a variety of everyday topics. Some attention is given to understanding “casual English” as it is spoken by native speakers of English. Active participation, including interaction among class participants, is required.（Two course sequence.）

Class participation grades are based on attendance, active participation in class, quality of work, effort, and attitude. The final exam, given during the last class, will cover all of the class work of the semester.

Selective chapters from the second half of the textbook will form the basis of two classes per chapter.
