授業の内容（Course Description） |

In this course, we will study different methods of translation. These will include close translation, translation for meaning, summary translation, oral summary translation, etc. The emphasis will be on practical translations, such as translations of news headlines, weather forecasts, schedules, life stories, cultural topics, and so on. Translations will be Japanese-English, and English-Japanese.

By the end of the course, students will have developed a good ability to translate a variety of materials, and be able to adjust the type of translation to the aim of the translation.

Grades will be based on classroom performance and a test.

There is no set textbook for this course. We will use materials from newspapers, news broadcasts, movies, and also materials brought by the students

授業の計画（Course Syllabus) |
|
Lesson content will include the following:
1.Giving personal information (place of birth, age, etc.) in English and Japanese
2.Techniques for translating literature from English to Japanese
3.Translating difficult Japanese cultural words, and words and expressions concerned with Japanese lifestyle (eg, food, housing, etc.)
4.Close translations of newspaper articles (Japanese-English)
5.Close translations of newspaper articles (English-Japanese)
6.Translating informal and colloquial English into Japanese
7.Oral presentations of materials written in Japanese
Each of the above will take approximately two lessons.
