1. 授業の内容(Course Description)
This class will examine issues of international communication in three areas: verbal and nonverbal communication as well as cultural issues. In the area of verbal communication, we will study verbal language and how it is used and acquired by 1st and 2nd language learners and also how it changes over time. In the area of nonverbal communication, we will study the various factors that comprise nonverbal communication such as physical appearance, facial expressions, eye contact, personal space and distancing, touch and so on. We will also study culture and differences between cultures and how language is used in different social settings.
The second portion of each class will be an English lesson using the following text.

授業の到達目標(Course Objectives)
It is my hope that all students will finish this class with a deeper understanding of cultural differences as they pertain to the English language as well as an expanded repertoire of English phrases, vocabulary, and speaking strategies. Students will be given a chance to improve their casual English as well as their business English vocabulary and speaking strategies.

The students will be required to participate in class by attending the lecture and actively participating in all class activities including group discussions, presentations and pair/group activities, fill out exit cards, and submit weekly journals twice a week.
