1. 授業の内容(Course Description)
The main objective of this course is to further the speaking skill and foster the deeper understand of English. This course will focus on conversational situations paired with grammatical structures to encourage students to define new vocabulary, infer information that can come in cultural contexts, demonstrate the skills presented in the class, as well as analyze the connection between culture and the English language. During this course, students will have a chance to utilize the English they've gained while studying abroad as well as build upon that knowledge to deepen the understanding of how their English ability can affect their lives.

授業の到達目標(Course Objectives)
Students will attend class and participate in the class by note taking, use in new vocabulary in learning activities, and using their experiences and imaginations to carry out role-playing scenarios during the lessons. There will also be opportunities to give presentations and speeches. Students will be expected to attend all scheduled tests and assessments. A percentage grade of 60% or better will be required to pass the course. Any student who misses more than 5 classes will need to talk to the teacher in order to do make up work. Anyone who misses a test without a valid, university accepted, reason will not have a chance to take a make-up exam.

Students will need a dictionary, either electronic or paper will be fine.

授業の計画(Course Syllabus)
Week 1: Getting to know each other and Trip Reports. (getting to know the teacher)
(Simple Past and Pres + Past Perfect if time. Conv: What kind of student are you? / Interests.)
Week 2: Understanding, Comparing, Analyzing verb pairs with Gerunds and Infinitives.
(Communication and understanding walls to overcome. Conv: Culture and traditions of Japan and other countries.)
Week 3: Advanced Information checking and Contextual clues in Conversation for word meaning.
(Suffixes / Prefixes and Inferring strategies. Conv: Linguistic understanding and problem solving.)
Week 4: Fluency skills for making adjectives stronger and weaker.
(Skills: Very / Really / incredibly / etc.(Adj. of Feeling) Conv: Feelings about things and situations).
Week 5: Chatting and Inferring information.
(Audible, Visual, and Lexical clues to gain information. Presentation: Skit practice for more mastery.)
Week 6: Asking for / giving / refusing permissions with host families.
(Grammar: Ma / Could / Is it alright / Can I. Conv: Home stay situations using the grammar.)
Week 7: MID-TERM ASSESSMENT
Week 8: Idioms (Numbers) and Physical/Verbal Communication Cues Pt.1 / TEST REVIEW
(Number Idioms for Conversation and Developing Skills for Cultural communication without words.)
Week 9: Physical Communication Cues Pt. 2 and Advice.
(Inferring moods and feelings using non-verbal communications. Grammar: Should/might/had better.)
Week 10: Business English and Vocabulary.
(Bring + Preposition for business situations. Conv. Business meeting practice in groups.)
Week 11: Fluency skills with tag questions / Negative Q's for shopping.
(Grammar: Verbs + pronouns to confirm facts. Conv: Shopping situations and checking.)
Week 12: Talking about news and headlines / Discussing News
(Passive Voice practice and Opinions. Conv: Headline comparison and article creation.)
Week 13: Final Test Review and Speaking Assessment introduction.
Week 14: FINAL ASSESSMENT
