English Conversation II Wayne Devitte

1. 授業の内容(Course Description)

 This course will provide students with a deeper understanding of conversation in English while focusing on learning to engage and interact in a positive fashion with people using the medium of English. Students will discuss topics relating to cultural norms, differences in cultural thinking and work to develop effective strategies for negotiating conversations about topics that they may not be familiar with. Activities will focus on improving students’ listening skills as well as English pronunciation, vocabulary and ability to respond appropriately in different situations.

授業の到達目標(Course Objectives)

 By the end of this course, students will have developed a healthy understanding of the differences in societal norms, and “appropriacy” of English usage. Furthermore, they will have had the opportunity to improve their casual English conversation skills, developed negotiation strategies and learned methods to continue self-improvement.

成績評価方法(Grading Policy)

(出席) Attendance (0%): Students are required to attend all tests and attend a minimum of 10 classes.
(参加度) Participation (40%): Students are required to participate actively in class
(課題) Assignments (20%): Students are required to complete two homework assignments
(試験) Examinations (40%): Students will be required to take two exams; 1 mid-term and 1 final exam

授業時間外の学習《準備学習》(Assignments)

No preparation before class is necessary.
Two homework assignments will be given in the semester.

学生への要望・その他(Class Requirements)

 The students will be required to participate in class by attending a minimum of 10 lectures, be active participants in class discussions and activities and follow the guidelines and instruction of the teacher. They will be expected to produce both scripted and original English; give opinions and commentary on discussion topics and ask and answer questions posed to them by the teacher and other students. Finally, they are expected to take all tests, and complete both assignments.
