Objectives
In order to become a member of society who possesses common sense, it is necessary to have knowledge and opinions about the formation of the modern world.
Therefore, we will look back upon the history of the 20th century from which today's world evolved using video recordings, and this will deepen our historical understanding of modern problems.
At the same time, I believe that this course will be the place of training to summarize our views comprehensibly.
2.
Outline
As the follow-up to International Culture 1, in which we analyzed the first half of the 20th century, this course deals with the second half of the 20th century.
After World War II ended in 1945, the world was divided into the liberal block and the socialist block, and they were violently opposed to each other. In time, the liberal camp achieved high economic growth and came to overwhelm the socialist block.
However, at the end of the 20th century, the depletion of the oil reserves that had supported the rapid growth was predicted, and the environmental destruction which affluent society brought about also erupted as a major problem. Moreover, although the cold war had ended, wars did not vanish from the world. Therefore, it shall be indispensable to know the circumstances in the late 20th century to consider the future in which many difficulties are expected.
International Culture 2 presents lectures on the history of the world in the second half of the 20th century, with showing film chronicles and supplementing the backgrounds by the oral description in each class.
