Course Description
As an introduction to Japan's Civil Law, we will get a rudimentary knowledge of Japanese legal system, the history of legislation of Japan's Civil Code in the Meiji Era, the important revisions until today, the fundamental principles of the civil law and the civil judicial procedure. Then the course proceeds to the First Part of the Civil Code. The topics are as follows: protection of private property; freedom of contract; tort liability; public policy; private right; capacity; natural person; property right.
