1. Course Description
In the objectives of each grade described in “the Course of Study (Japanese Language)” issued in 2008, the word “To develop in pupils the ability” was clearly written, and in the Content of each skills, some examples of “language activities” appeared for the first time. Furthermore, the former word “Linguistic items” was changed to “Items related to traditional linguistic culture and characteristics of the Japanese language.” These would greatly affect the Japanese language education. I hope you will fully understand the Japanese language education through actual instructions and learning activities taking the above mentioned into consideration. I will give classes not only with mere lectures and explanations but as concretely as possible assuming a real Japanese language class in an elementary school, and, in some cases, you are expected to study Japanese language putting yourself in the elementary school student’s place. It is necessary for you to have such consciousness in doing the research of teaching materials. I hope you to have your own ideas about what Japanese language lessons are through this course.
