1. Course Description
This course introduces students to the methods of analysis of economic policies with extensive applications of theory to current policy issues.Key issues include welfare economics, the theory of voting, the theory of public goods, redistribution of income, externalities, social surplus, cost-benefit analysis and public expenditures.A substantial amount of time will be devoted to a comparison between fiscal and monetary policies.The objectives are to (i) understand a set of economic terminology, (ii) learn to apply basic principles of evaluation, and (iii) compare the policy options available to the government.
