Objectives |
The aim of this course is to understand the following items: (1) basic properties of conic sections, (2) standard forms of conic sections, (3) basic properties of quadric surfaces and (4) history and types of modern geometry.

Outline |
In this course, an introduction to analytic geometry (Cartesian geometry) is given, and some cutting-edge topics on modern geometry are introduced. The contents of the lectures are then summarized as follows: (1) conic sections (ellipse, parabola and hyperbola), (2) quadric surfaces (ellipsoid, hyperboloid of one/two sheet(s), elliptic paraboloid, etc.) and (3) some aspects of modern geometry (topology, graph theory and computational geometry).
