Objectives |

The students will study the public policies aimed at solving various problems in the local government. Then they will discuss these matters and look for solutions. Through these efforts, the students will be able to establish their own decision-making skills and self-reliance spirit.

Outline |
|
The professor teaching this course has had a great deal of of experience as a senior officer in both the central and local governments, such as diplomat, deputy mayor, administrative manager and as a pioneer of the "One village one product movement" (a typical policy for local development, spreading throughout Japan). The professor also holds the title of the honorary professor at the Local Autonomy College, Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications. In the first few lectures, the students learn about the professor's experiences. And then on the hypothesis that they become civil servants, they will choose several issues to be solved. They will make inquiries and propose their own policy for solving the problem. The students will also be able to visit some organizations such as the Tochigi prefectural government offices, police headquarters, a fire station, and municipal government offices.
