Web Syllabus(講義概要)

　通訳論という授業では、教員は日本語ではなく主に英語で説明します。外国人の立場から、和文英訳を分析します。春学期の初めに、通訳方法に関して概説します。主な教材として映画を用います。いくつかの場面を観て和文英訳を試みます。また、学生は好きなトピックを選び、グループで課題に取り組んだり、和文英訳について発表をしてもらいます。この授業を通して、英語を書く力だけでなく聴く力（リスニング能力）も上げられるというメリットがあると思います。
　This class will be predominantly taught in English. This will hopefully give a fresh perspective on the art of interpretation. After a brief introduction to the methodology of interpretation, students will have lots of chances to research about topics they are interested in. Students will give group presentations on topics regarding translation and interpretation from Japanese to English. This class is a great chance also to improve listening skills.

　This semester we will look at cinema using Notting Hill to focus on "smart and witty conversations" as well as "functional, high-usage grammar". The teacher will introduce "living English" and various aspects of British life and culture.
Lots of listening and comprehension quizzes using the dialogs from actual scenes from the film.

　３回以上の欠席は基本的に不可とする。遅刻は20分まで。遅刻３回で欠席１回とみなします。
　Homework is a must. Coming to class is a must. Coming to class on time is a must. Participation is a must. Dictionaries and notebooks a must.
　A strict attendance policy will be observed. Be warned!
　Students in this class are expected to be active and autonomous in learning English. This is not a class for passive students who want an easy credit.
　Students are expected to attend class, do homework, prepare for tests and presentations.
　Failure to do so will mean failure from the course.
