Web Syllabus(講義概要)

The purpose of this course is to help students improve their English language skills of Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking. Particular emphasis, however, is placed on reading in English, thinking in English and explaining in English. Through extensive reading, students are expected not only to grasp the meaning of the text, but also to paraphrase the text in their own “English” words. This course will focus on practical, everyday English.
　実用的な英文の速読・多読を通して、「英語で読み」「英語で考え」「英語で発信する」能力を涵養する授業である。英文を逐語的に日本語に置き換えてゆく伝統的な「英文和訳」ではなく、英語でインプットした内容を英語でアウトプット（要約またはパラフレーズして「書く」「話す」）できるよう訓練する。

The aim of this course is to enable you to:
　　(1) understand sentences and frequently used expressions related to areas of most immediate relevance.
　　(2) communicate in simple and routine tasks requiring a simple and direct exchange of information on familiar and routine matters.
　　(3) describe in simple terms aspects of your background, immediate environment and matters in areas of immediate need.
　　(CEFR Level A2)
　「ヨーロッパ言語共通参照枠（CEFR: Common European Framework of Reference for Languages）」におけるA2レベルが到達目標である。すなわち、日常生活で頻出する表現を理解することができ、身近な物事に関する単純な話題においてはコミュニケーションが可能である。自分自身や自分に直接関係する物事について簡単な言葉で説明できる。

Your final grade will be based on the following:
　　　25％　Attendance, Participation and Preparedness
　　　25％　Quizzes and Writing Assignments
　　　50％　Mid-term and Final Examinations
　積極的な授業参加（25％）、英作文課題（25％）、中間試験および期末試験（50％）で総合的に評価する。

Classes A～C：『Headway Academic Skills Reading, Writing, and Study Skills Level 1 Student's Book』（Oxford University Press / 72 pages / ￥2,592）
Classes D～H：『Headway Academic Skills Reading, Writing, and Study Skills Introductory Level Student's Book』（Oxford University Press / 72 pages / ￥2,592）

You are expected to come to class fully (or at least adequately) prepared.
　予習・復習は必須。予習をしている前提で授業を進める。

In order to learn correct, natural, real English, you must avoid using online translation services such as Google Translate. You are strongly recommended to use an English-English (rather than English-Japanese) dictionary.
　正しい語感を損なわせるという理由から、「Google翻訳」等のオンライン翻訳サイトの使用厳禁。自然な語感を身につけるために、英和辞典よりも「英英辞典」の使用を推奨する。
