Objectives
In order to become a member of Japanese society who possesses common sense, the knowledge of a Chinese characters is indispensable. For this reason, the course aims to assist the student in succeeding to pass the 2nd class, the pre-second grade, and the third grade exams of the Japan Kanji Aptitude Testing Foundation.
In addition, the ability to express one's ideas to others is essential regardless of what the student chooses as a future occupation. The training for this is carried in a report-debate style.
This class aims to develop abilities appropriate for Japanese adults.

Outline
Each participant will choose a disputatious problem in which he/she is interested and the turn of the report will be decided in the class.
Each reporter will research it in the university library or the Internet in advance, arrange his/her own idea, and write a summary (resume).
In the classroom, short exams of Chinese character reading and writing are given at the start of the class using the Japan Kanji Aptitude Testing Foundation collection of problems. Each participants will try the test for the grade which he/she will take.
Then, the reporter of the day explains the selected subject and argues his/her opinion and its reasons. After the discussion by all participants, students without the reporter will judge how persuasive the content of the report is.
