Objectives |

The goals of this class are as follows: 1. To be able to find out some themes for discussion among major contemporary topics in the areas of medicine and health care 2. To be able to research on those topics and build up a summary report 3. To be able to orally present the summary of their own researches in the class clearly

Outline |
|
This class is offered to the students belonging to the Department of Judo therapy, Faculty of Medical Technology and the Department of Regional Economics, Faculty of Economy, in addition to those who take this class for General Basic Subjects. Therefore, the topics in this class will not be dispersed across the various areas of Medicine and Health care. Instead, students will focus on some major contemporary topics in this country concerning Medicine and Health care, and learn the possible causes and solutions of some problems we are facing. In addition, students are expected to have some specific interests related to both the topics in this class and their own areas. The outline of this class is as follows: (1) This class is composed of four parts, each of which deals with metabolic syndrome, geriatric medicine, sports medicine, and health promotion through exercise, respectively. (2) In each part of the class, students take two or three lectures on basic concepts. While receiving these lectures, they are expected to find out their own interests related to the main topics and have to give a presentation at the end. In addition, a report on a selected theme has to be handed in at the end of the whole class. (3) Assistant Professor Dr. Hiroyuki ABE (Department of Judo Therapy, Faculty of Medical Technology) takes care of the first through 8th classes, and Associate Professor Dr. Kiyoshi SHIROISHI (Department of Judo Therapy, Faculty of Medical Technology) works for the rest of the class.
