Course Description |
|
This elective seminar aims to develop students' skills of critical thinking and their oral presentation abilities. Throughout the semester, this course will examine how the portrayal of minorities has shifted in American movies. Since the early 20th century, with the spread of American movies and TV programs, American values and lifestyle have been exported to the world. While watching these movies, however, we are also exposed to stereotypical images of ethnic and cultural minorities expressed implicitly or explicitly in the stories. This course will use a variety of movies and TV programs to explore the depiction of minorities. Students are required to give individual and group presentations based on both readings in class and outside materials.
