Riding on the strength and enthusiasm of the Olympic and Paralympic Games coming to Tokyo in 2020, Japan has set a target of welcoming 40 million overseas visitors to the country. Expansion of the tourism industry to respond to the Inbound market has been designated by the government as one of the pillars of its growth strategy.
In view of this environment, the airline and railway industries have major roles to play. In Japan, there are high expectations for growth in the transportation industry, centering on the two major commercial air carriers, along with Low Cost Carriers (LCC) and the Japan Railways Group and others.
In this course, we will analyze the trends in the transportation sector, including the entry into the market of Air BNB style personally-owned home rental accommodations, and examine these from the aspects of operation and management.
