Outline
Significance of non-profit organizations and non-governmental organizations are increasingly recognized in Japan. In this course, you will read textbooks and make presentations about the contents and discuss them. Class discussions will also focus on a variety of events, occurrences and incidents in the society.

Objectives
You will understand in logical and hands-on manners about a development cycle of NPOs, from their founding to daily operation, and the issues they need to address. The course also aims that students should learn fundamental knowledge on organizational operation and management, which will be required to solve issues in the actual work environment. Emphasis will be placed on perspectives in the actual scenes of NPOs.

Grading Policy
Presentations and discussions: 50%, reports: 50%. Evaluations of presentation and discussions will be based on appropriateness of descriptions of text contents and originarities. Evaluations of reports are based on the originality, logical quality and expressions.

Requirements (Assignments)
Check recent social incidents on the Internet. Some students may have experiences of working at NPOs. Please explain about your experiences in the class. Information on research groups or schedules of public symposiums related to NPO/NGO will be provided in the class. You are welcome to attend such meeting, if you feel it necessary to do so.
