Outline |

In ancient times, Japan adopted many traditions from China, and since the Meiji era, Japan has become more westernized, such as embarking on a course of nation-building. There were the time in which Japan was sealed off to outside world like the Edo era and developed its unique civilization, and the time in which it revolted against the Western civilization like the WWII wartime. Continuing from Japanese cultural history Ⅰ which covered from ancient times to the Edo period, Japanese cultural history Ⅱ deals with the age since the Meiji era from which today's Japanese society has evolved. Audio and visual recordingss will be shown as often as possible.

Objectives |

this lecture deals with the second half of the 20th century. Japan has formed the present form through interaction with various foreign civilizations. Hereafter, it is indispensable to further deepen international communication while also defending our native traditions. We will learn how to do this task from a wide variety of experiences of our ancestors.
