Outline
 The aim of this course is to allow students to acquire basic knowledge about various types of agriculture in Japan. There are completely different among rice farming, vegetable farming and dairy farming in aspects how farmers work, how farmlands are used, what kind of tools and machines they use, and how much of the capital is necessary. Without such basic knowledge, students may have superficial or outrageous opinion. This course corresponds to the department's DP1.

Objectives
  Through this course participants will obtain basic knowledge and information about major types of Japanese agriculture. They can understand that East Asian agriculture, including Japanese one, is significantly different from Europe, because the arable land must be flat and water must be supplied to the arable land from outside. In order to know basic techniques and skills, participants may have chances to go to farms when farmers are working.
