1. |
Outline |
With reading well-established papers, interesting new papers and a literature written by Theodore von Karman, students will consider the strong points and weak points of each article on aerodynamics, write reports and present their opinions about them and propose possible revisions for each article. Through this special series of lectures on aerodynamics, students will acquire abilities to find, to analyze and to solve problems and technical communication skills. These technical abilities and skills are essential for students who wish to become expert engineers or researchers in this field. Students will be able to acquire the knowledge, skills, abilities and attitudes described in the diploma policy DP1 and DP2.
2. |
Objectives |
The goal of this course is to acquire methodologies for defining effective research themes and to find breakthrough research pathways for accomplishing objectives required by the public and industry, and to learn methodologies for writing influential and clear papers.
3. |
Grading Policy |
The learning results are evaluated with four reports about three papers and one literature. All reports are evaluated and returned to the students. The evaluation results are explained by the lecturer.
4. |
Textbook and Reference |
Texts are provided by the lecturer because some of them are unavailable in Japan. 1. Original papers shown in the lecture schedule. 2. The Wind and Beyond: Theodore von Karman, Pioneer in Aviation and Pathfinder in Space - Theodore von Karman, Little, Brown and Company, Boston, Toronto.
5. |
Requirements (Assignments) |
Students are required to prepare for these lectures by reading the papers and the literature and consulting reference literature. Then they need to submit their report before the next lecture. Students will discuss about their opinions with referring their reports in the lecture. Students are also required to review and revise their reports after the lecture and submit their revised reports for evaluation. Students will need at least two hours for preparation and one hour for review except lecture time.
6. |
Note |
Lectures will be given using the provided papers and the literature. Students are required to present their opinions and discuss each other using their reports.
