Outline
Students will learn the following themes.
1) Definition of Health and Overview of Public Health.
2) Environmental Health, including physical and chemical factors.
3) Overview of Epidemiology and its method.
4) Health problems today.
The lectures on Environmental Health will be given by Dr. Sumio Gotoh.
2.
Objectives
The students will understand what kinds of factors influence the health of contemporary people,
The students can explain the present status of the following topics, and think about how to manage the factors in the future.
1) Factors influence the health of humans and how to protect human health from those factors.
2) Effects of environmental pollutants on human health.
3) Assessment of the health status of humans.
4) Health and medical services in Japan.
5) Infectious diseases.
3.
Grading Policy
Students are evaluated by the term-end examination. The passing mark is 60% or higher.

Textbook and Reference
Printed materials are distributed.
Journal of Health and Welfare Statistics, Vol. 65 (9), 2018 (In Japanese) is used as a reference.

Requirements (Assignments)
News and topics on factors influencing human health are reported every day. Try to understand the details of the topics.
