Outline
The study material will be 4-5 articles from an English newspaper that has been selected by the lecturer that covers current affairs. (with Japanese translation for words/phrases/idioms)
It is expected that each student will read aloud several lines in turn and translate it into Japanese. This will be followed by a discussion (in Japanese) of each topics in the class.
2.
Objectives
In the international areana,it is important to have your own view to any subject you pursue and be able to communicate them clearly to others. Anyone can talk about topics they are familiar with, such as their own family, but find it more difficult to talk about matters they are not familiar with.
The goal of this class is to expand the knowledge base of the students and encourage them develop their own views through reading articles that are of interest to foreign people, and gradually get accustomed to English vocabulary, phrases, and idioms.

Grading Policy
Students will be evaluated by their level of contribution to the class discussions, and reports/exams.

Textbook and Reference
Newspaper articles.
5.
Requirements (Assignments)
The lecturer will select articles covering topics such as politics/economics/society from an English newspaper and hand them out to the students a few days advance of the class as the text.
It is recommended that students read aloud the text several times. It would help with the learning even more if students are able to read/watch similar articles in a Japanese Newspaper/TV and attend the class with their views.
