Outline
The students will study the basis of the disaster prevention policies including the role of the central and local governments and the Basic Act on Disaster Control Measures.
The students will also learn some concrete examples as "case-studies" to know how to react in times of disaster such as the Great Hanshin Earthquake and marine accidents (such as the Nakhodka oil spill accident which polluted the coastline with a large amount of crude oil). How to exhibit leadership is one of the most important issues in controlling a disaster.
The students will learn "the People Protection Law" promulgated in 2004 to develop a full security systemfor the entire country.
The students can get the knowledge,accoplishment and attitude of DP(2・3).

Objectives
Japan is prone to being hit by earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, storms, and floods due to its geographical and climate conditions. The professor teaching this course was a president of the Fire Defense College of the Ministry of the Internal Matters and Communications. The professor is also a member of the Atomic energy compensation for damages examination committee.
The students will study the important policies to tackle against disasters in order to protect people's lives
and property and to know the importance of cooperation among the people.
