Web Syllabus(講義概要)

　The primary activity will be the step-by-step watching and discussion of English language films in this graduate course. Class sessions will be designed around the individual language needs and intellectual interests of the participants. Films in English, sometimes with English subtitles, will be shown. English language will be observed in the context of actual communication among English language speakers. Students will experience a variety of accents and English language usage. Cultural elements, especially relating to American society, will be observed. Students will have significant opportunity to interact in English through discussions of the films provided. Additional activities, as they arise, may supplement the course content.

　To observe English being used among native speakers.
　To enhance English language listening skills for a variety of English accents.
　To increase knowledge of informal English and slang.
　To improve English language speaking skills.
　To better understand Anglophone culture, especially American culture.
　To provide opportunities for making Power Point presentations in English.
　To enhance the ability of students to partake in intellectual discussions in English.

　Final grades are based on class participation, effort, reports, and improvements in English made by the participants. 50% class participation, effort, and improvements in English. 50% Reports.

　Films provided by the instructor.

　Each student will prepare two reports to present in the class about films of their choosing. These reports will generally require some research and the preparation of visual aids, such as PowerPoint presentations, handouts, videos, etc.

　Students are expected to attend classes regularly and to actively participate.
