Indigenous Peoples represent cultures that have existed since the earliest days of mankind up to the present. The ancient religions of these peoples may be called the Primal Religions. These religions and related cultures have produced objects that may be called "Tribal Art."These artistic objects represent the roots of almost all the religions and art of our world. The cultures of Indigenous Peoples have been rapidly changing and vanishing due to the domination of the more recent modern cultures of the world. This course explores these objects--(which include statues, masks, and ritualistic objects, as well as decorative and functional objects--through lectures photos, and videos. Actual objects will sometimes be exhibited in the classroom, along with in-class assignments. These objects will be discussed from various perspectives. Why were they created? How are they used?
