Web Syllabus(講義概要)

　英語で日本近代史を学ぶ。特に、近代日本の政治、外交、文化に焦点を当てて概説していく。この学期は、幕末から第一次世界大戦までの時期を扱う。
　This course is an introduction to modern Japanese history. This semester we will cover the period between the end of the Edo period（1854）and the First World War（1914-18）.
　Much attention will be given to politics, foreign relations, society and culture.

　この授業には、２つの目標がある。１）留学生に日本の歴史を紹介する。２）日本人の学生の総合的な英語力を高める。There are two objectives: 1）familiarize foreign students with modern Japanese history and 2）improve English language skills of Japanese students.

　・試験（Examination）　　　　　　　　　　　　（70％）
　・出席（Attendance）　　　　　　　　　　　　　（20％）
　・積極的な授業参加　Active class participation　 （10％）

　・教科書：特に指定しない。適宜、授業で配る。 Texts will be distributed when necessary
　・参考書：授業時に適宜紹介する。Texts will be recommended

　・授業時間外の学習。（Assignments）
　・授業ノートを読み返し、復習する。 Read class notes regularly and try to memorize facts and ideas.
