Web Syllabus(講義概要)

　The seminar continues the theme of utopia and dystopia but looks more closely at the themes of machine society, robots, the animal, the inhuman, superhuman in British literature and film. Students must be pro-active in English in this seminar as we shall make a class book on the above themes at the end of the course.
　昨年に引き続きテーマは理想郷とディストピアですが、2017年度ゼミでは、イギリス文学と映画における「機械社会、ロボット、動物になること、非人間的になること、超人的になること」のテーマをより詳しく見ていきます。このゼミでは、英語を活発に使うことに興味を持ってください。秋学期の終わりでは、上記のテーマについてゼミ生全員で本を完成させます。

　Goals of the course are simple: to use English and critical thinking while discussing British science fiction, film and literature.
　Students will research a particular writer/director/poet/manga artist/musician or historical period and give regular presentations. We will connect and discuss contemporary issues linked to robots etc. It is hoped students will make a class book in the second semester.

　宿題（30％）class、presentation 1（30％）and report（40％）
　注意：3回以上の欠席は基本的に不可とする。遅刻は20分まで。遅刻3回で欠席1回とみなします。
　　　　できるだけ授業に毎回出席してください。

　Students are expected to be active in class, prepare research outside of class, and voice opinions in class.

　Homework is a must. Coming to class is a must. Coming to class on time is a must. Participation is a must. Dictionaries and notebooks a must.
　A strict attendance policy will be observed. Be warned!
　Students in this class are expected to be active and autonomous in learning English. This is not a class for passive students who want an easy credit.
　Students are expected to attend class, do homework, prepare for tests and presentations. Failure to do so will mean failure from the course.
