Course Description

To deepen the understandings of Japanese regional economy, we study the basic theory of Regional Economics and Urban Economics. Then we investigate regional economic trends of Japan i.e. the movement of people and economy to concentrate to Tokyo Metropolitan Area, the efforts ofJapanese Government to decentralize ecomic power and revitalization of regional economy, and the fiscal diffculty of local governments. So,in the course of Japanese Regional Economy I, we study the effects of globalization to regional economies, the change of industrial structure and it’s effects on the regional economy, the concentration-problem to Tokyo Metropolitan Area and the exhaustion of the local economies, the demand-led v.s. supply-led growth theory, the internal trade between local economies, the inequality of income and immigration movement, the regional development policy of Japanese government.
