Course Description

In this class, the aim is to understand pottery making techniques. We will actually use clay to make Jomon pottery, Yayoi pottery, and Haniwa. Through the work of making pottery, you will be able to understand how to form pottery, what kinds of tools are used in making pottery, how the pattern seen on the surface of pottery. Such pottery making techniques are important points when observing the pottery which is the actual archaeological material. In other words, through the making pottery, you will have an eye on how to observe the material in archaeology.
