Course Description

After Tokyo’s has welcomed the world as the host of the 2019 Rugby World Cup and 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games, Japan is looking ahead to 2025, when the World Expo returns to Osaka, Kansai after 55 years. The nation is preparing to greet even more tourists and businesspeople from overseas, anticipating 60 million visitors by 2030. The tourism industry has been designated by the government as one of the pillars of its growth strategy.

In view of this environment, the airline and railway industries have major roles to play. In Japan, there are high expectations for growth in the transportation industry, centering on the two major commercial air carriers, along with Low Cost Carriers (LCC) and the Japan Railways Group and others.
In this course, we will analyze the trends in the transportation sector, including the permeation in the global market of Airbnb style personally-owned home rental accommodations, and examine these from the aspects of operation and management, along with the controversial legal issues in Japan.
