Course Description

It is often said that tourism in a modern sense appeared relatively recently in the history of mankind. However, in a broad sense, "traveling for enjoyment" itself dates back to the ancient times. In order to properly understand the tourism today, it is necessary to objectively understand the social environment of modern tourism, and thus learning the history of tourism is essential in tourism study. In this lecture, we will explore tourism history of the world and Japan chronologically and learn unique social environments of tourism in each era.
