Course Description

This course introduces students to a selection of literary works written in the late nineteenth to early twentieth century, a period when realism and naturalism flourished in the united states. During this period, industrialization and urbanization brought profound changes to almost all aspects of American life. The population became increasingly diverse because of the mass waves of immigration to the country. We will read important works by James Fenimore Cooper, Mark Twain, Harriet Beecher Stowe, Theodore Dreiser, John Steinbeck, and other authors.
