Course Description

Students enrolled in the teaching methods course will acquire skills to teach social studies in elementary classrooms. In order to observe techniques demonstrating “best practices”, students will watch videos of social studies lessons in elementary classrooms. After each video, students will analyze procedures and communications between the teacher and children. After discussing each video, the students will develop lesson plans for a mock lesson. This course emphasizes the importance of using primary sources in lessons. Therefore, all students will be required to develop lesson plans based on the use of primary sources.
