We often tend to regard "region" as fixed entity. However, in fact, "region" is also a framework related to the long-term human activities. In this lecture, we will learn about the "vanished" ethnic world in southwest China. The "ethnic world" of Southwest China, which certainly existed for a time in history, ostensibly turned to "invisible", but it continues to survive in a different form as it is transformed into part of the Chinese nation. We will consider about the phenomenon in which the transition of unification and pluralism, and of "ethnic" and "local" in China.
