Fieldwork or ethnography, a body of methods for qualitative social research, is an indispensable tool for empirical social investigations. In this course, students will build a comprehensive understanding of the basics of sociological fieldwork by reading through a textbook and some ethnographic classics as well as working through exemplary issues pertinent to it. By the end of the course, they will be equipped with knowledge and skills to start empirically exploring the diverse social realities in contemporary society via qualitative methods, and thus be ready to practice them in Sociological Fieldwork in the fall semester, that succeeds this course.
