Course Description

This course aims to acquire practical skills and knowledge necessary for students as curators of museums. For this reason, two subjects are prepared in this course: practice in the university and internship in the museum outside the university. Two are shown below.
1: In practical training in the university, students use raw materials such as erthernware, sotoneware, and woodenware. Various knowledge, methods, and skills are necessary to make raw materials as museum materials. These include museum science, and knowledge with skills according to the materials handled by museums such as history, arthistory, anthropology, etc. This course aims to understand the processes such as colleciton, survey, resaerch, organization, storage, exbition, etc. of materials, and to learn necessary knowledge and skills for each.
2: Internship at a museum outside the university aims to learn practical knowledge and methods such as how to manipulate the materials, how to operate the museum,
stuff roles and organaization, and relations with the community. Practice content includes collection and handling of materials, exhibition design and exhibition activities of materials, reception to visitors, participation in visitors' hands-on learning, etc. Their contents differ depending on the museum.
