Course Description

The subject of this seminar is the politics and the politicians in the ancient Athens and Rome. Students are required to learn the basic method of the historical research through presentation and discussion. The basic method includes how to read an academic book and make its summary, the technique of presentation and group discussion. The texts are 'Democracy in Athens" by Y. Hashiba, biography of Plutarch (each student chooses a biography of the Athenian politicians), and "Caesar" by Goldsworthy(each student chooses 2~3 chapters).
