Course Description

The purpose of this class is to cultivate a way of thinking that takes modern phenomena from a historical perspective. Modern phenomena are social changes caused by the new corona disaster, the bloated administrative power, and the extreme confusion in our understanding of facts as we look at things. In the Western History Exercise 5A-II, the latter part of this exercise, Michiko Kakutani, one of the leading critics of modern America, published a book during the Trump administration. Through this book, he aims to deepen his education and acquire a background in discussing social and political issues from a historical approach.

・Classes are conducted in the form of exercises. Students must read the relevant sections of the text they subscribe to on the day in advance and clarify their questions and impressions before attending the class.
・Students must report at least once or twice. If you are assigned to the reporting role, summarize the appropriate sections of the text that you will be reading that day and summarize your own issues.
・Based on the reports submitted by the rapporteur, participants and teachers hold discussions to deepen their understanding.
