Course Description

This course aims to encourage students to consider the meaning of ethics, or the ethical decision making and the criteria for right or wrong, through reading ethical or moral discourse of philosophers. The first half of course focuses on the concept of virtue in the Ancient Greece, especially on the theme of how individual well-being is related to ethics. The latter half of the course of focuses on the modern ethical thoughts, especially that of Kantian ethics and utilitarian discourse, questioning in what circumstances man’s action is justified as “ethical”.
