Course Description

Clinical psychology is a practical psychology to be useful in the field of medical care, education, industry, welfare, justice and so on. Clinical psychologists in various clinical settings are required to be trained and practiced based on the "Scientist-Practitioner Model", which tells the importance of practice based on a scientific understanding of the structure of the mind.
However, patients and clients have highly individual problems and experience. Therefore, it is not so easy to keep the balance between a scientific, objective perspective and individual, subjective perspective from patients and clients. If you focus only on scientific knowledge, you may not understand the suffering of the patients and clients there on the spot.
In "Basic Research in Psychology I", we will discuss basic paradigms of clinical psychology based on literature with awareness of such a balance. Personality theory, psycho-analysis, humanistic psychology, learning theory, cognitive theory, and other paradigms are dealt with in this lecture. The evidence of these paradigms and the actual application in clinical practice will be examined.
