Course Description

This course introduces students to initial stages of logical thinking. The main goal is to gradually develop it by studying and discussing current issues.
Teaching approaches in the course include: taking up one national or international topic at a time; reading related stories in Japanese; grasping the gist of them and analyzing them (what happens, why it happens, what issue is at stake, etc.); reading and translating English stories.
Focus in spring semester is on improving reading comprehension.
