Course Description

This course deals with history of international law and sources of international law. The topics are as follows: (1) the characteristics of international law; (2) history of international law up to the 17th century; (3) history of international law from the 18th century to the 19th century; (4) history of international law since the 20th century; (5) article 38 of the Statute of the International Court of Justice [1]; (6) article 38 of the Statute of the International Court of Justice [2]; (7) law of treaties [1]: concept and concluding process; (8) law of treaties [2]: entry into force and reservation; (9) law of treaties [3]: interpretation; (10) law of treaties [4]: invalidity and termination; (11) customary international law and multilateral conventions; (12) sources of international law other than article 38 of the Statute of the International Court of Justice; (13) hierarchical order of international law; (14) the relationship between international law and domestic laws.
