Course Description

In the spring semester of this course, we aim to understand the political history of India from the colonial era to the 21st century. In the first half of the semester, we study the thoughts and behaviors of political leaders during the period of independence movement. In the second half, we study the political history of India since independence, focusing on how the socio-economic factors such as caste, religion and economy have changed the nature of the Indian politics. I will give you a quiz at the end of each class, so that you can check your understanding and express your own opinions on the topics discussed.
