In order to leave cultural properties to posterity, management based on scientific knowledge is indispensable. Therefore, in this class, we will first learn the scientific research principles of cultural properties, how to operate analyzers, and how to interpret data. Secondly, we will use that knowledge to learn about the preservation and conservation of cultural properties in a practical format. Specifically, we aim to acquire skills in how to use microscopes, X-ray fluorescent analyzers, infrared spectroscopy, photography technology, and conservation.
