Course Description

This course is aimed at understanding the methodology of research for cultural property through studying how to collect and analyze various scientific information on materials, fabrication techniques, and the environment.
For the fabrication of arts and crafts, obtaining raw materials and tools, the establishment of processing technology and channels of distribution are required. Therefore historical, cultural, ethnological, and technical background could be revealed by scientific research on arts and crafts. Although lectures include much scientific content, these are important opportunities to deepen understanding of contact between historical and scientific research. It is expected that this course will lead to a higher level of master's thesis research.
