Course Description

This course examines Japan political history from the Meiji Restoration to the end of the Second World War. At the Meiji period, Hanbatsu, the group of people from the former domains in southwest Japan, occupied important posts in the Japanese government.However,at the Taisho period,party politicians-elected officials-gained power.This course explores how and why political leadership under the Consitutution of the Empire of Japan was transformed. Students will also learn why Japan went to war with the United States.
