Course Description

It appears that most people have a vague image of current juvenile delinquency. To a large extent, those impressions are created through the mass media, but the mass media does not necessarily portray the reality in an accurate way. In this course, which will adopt a statistical approach toward juvenile delinquency, we will examine biases in media coverage and analyze practices in the juvenile justice system. The purpose is to deepen students' understanding of the realities surrounding juvenile delinquency.
