Course Description

The purpose of this class is to learn how to search, collect, organize, and examine historical materials, focusing on the reading of mainly old documents from the Edo to Meiji periods. In the first half of the class, the teacher will prepare old documents from the end of the Edo period to the beginning of the Meiji period, and in the second half, the students will use data obtained through their own research, if any. Depending on the number of students, we will proceed with the exercises in a reading circle or in a presentation format.
